Juice Fasting, is it for you?

There are a lot of risks involved with Juice Fasting.  But, there are a lot of benefits also.  What should one consider before they try one of these types of juice diets?

The Risks Of Juice Fasting


One of the problems of juice fasting is that you run a elevated risk of dehydration. Other symptoms you might develop is tiredness, headaches, thirst, confusion, and dizziness.  Most of these conditions can occur when you do not get enough nutrition from the juices that you are consuming.  If you are only drinking fruit juice and vegetable juice, you could develop these conditions.  Most of these issues do not occur if you are going on a juice fast for only a few days.  If you are going to go on a juice fast for an extended period (more than 2 days) you need to keep an eye on the symptoms above, and you should consult your doctor.  This type of juice dieting can be dangerous, and you should consult your doctor before you do it.

Will Juice Fasting Increase Your Metabolism?

Actually, juice fasting will do the opposite.  It will slow down your metabolism.  When your body goes into starvation mode, then your metabolism starts to slow down.  If you go on a juice fast occasionally, then you will not have a real impact on your metabolism.  If you frequently go on a juice fast, then you could end up with a problem, and your metabolism could slow.  The end result would be a slower metabolism that would result in weight gain.

Who Should Avoid Juice Fasting?

Yes, there are some people who should not try a juice fast.  If any of these apply to you, check with your doctor before you try this juice diet:

  1. Children (those under the age of 18).
  2. Pregnant women.
  3. Those who have had surgery in the last few months.
  4. Those who are underweight.
  5. Those with any serious medical condition, such as; cancer, diabetes, gout, anemia, bulimia, or malnutrition.

 Are There Any Benefits?

Yes, with juice fasting, you can be certain that you will loose weight.  If you are following a strict juice fast diet, you will drop a lot of weight very quickly.  Often a person will loose 3 to 5 pounds on fast of 3 to 4 days.

The other benefit is a shock to your metabolism.  Some have found it beneficial to change things up.  It can reset, or challenge your metabolism, which will result in additional weight loss.

Many have reported that after they have gone on a juice fast, they feel more relaxed and clear headed.  They also have reported an increased sense of spiritual awareness.  The main reason some people have felt this way is due to the nature of juice fasting.  The body is detoxing and cleaning house. During a detox cycle like this, your mind will get sharper, and you will feel more alert.

This process is a lot better than a traditional water fast. With a water fast, you are not getting any nutrition at all. With a juice fast, you are absorbing the nutrition of the juice. Many have reported that they have more energy, and they feel revitalized.

The body needs change.  If we keep eating the same foods all of the time, our body gets used to it.  If we change up our diet, we make the body react and adapt.  With any diet, change is good.

How Much Juice Will I Drink On A Juice Fast?

Most people drink between 32oz and 64oz of juice per day during the juice fast. Some drink more than this, and it is OK. The other key is to drink plenty of water on a juice fast. You are flushing out your system and detoxing it. Water is the key to flush away all of those toxins. Citrus fruits should be avoided as they cause dehydration.

Organic Fruits And Vegetables?

You will want to put the healthiest food into your body as possible. The whole idea behind a juice fast is to get rid of toxins in the body. Most fruits and vegetables that are non-organic have a lot of pesticides in them. Also the genetically modified fruits and vegetables should be avoided.

Should I Get A Juicer Or Buy Juice From The Store?

Fresh juice is always better than the juice in the store. The juice at your local Whole Foods, or similar type of store is going to have preservatives in it. With a juice fast, you want healthy, organic juice, that is free of any contaminants. There are a wide range of juicers to choose from, and not all of them are very expensive. How Much Time Is My Juice Fast Going To Take?

Just like anything in life that is worthwhile, it takes time. You can get your juicing for the day done in only 15 to 30 mins. Which is pretty quick if you consider how much time it takes to prepare a meal. With juicing, you can cut up your produce in a few minutes, then run it through you juicer. Depending on your juicer, clean up can be done quickly (especially if you have a dishwasher safe model).

It amazes me each and every day when I talk to folks about their diet. They tell me the things that they eat on a daily basis, and then they complain about how they feel. It is like they do not realize, that the two events are connected.

Yes, most if not all major health authorities recommend that we eat a certain amount of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. If you are like me, you do not accomplish this every day. In fact, most of us do not do this on a weekly basis. One easy way to get your 6 to 8 in is by juicing. Do you like to eat fresh fruits and vegetables?

Juicing helps you eat those “fruits and veggies” that you do not like

This is one of the main reasons why some people choose to juice. They want to get the nutrition from certain vegetables that they do not like to eat whole. For example, if you do not like beets, then you can juice them up and mix them into a juice you do like. You could mix it into apple, carrot, or orange juice.

Why should you get a Juicer?

There are many reasons why one should get a juicer. Here are a few of them in no particular order:

  1. Proven health benefits from eating fresh fruits and vegetables that have not been cooked or processed.  When a vegetable or fruit is cooked, or heated up to a certain level, some of the vitamins are lost.  If you are always consuming processed foods, you are not getting all of the value of the food.
  2. Orange juice comes in a glass, plastic, or paper container.  The glass containers are ideal, but not very many juice manufacturers ship it in glass.  The plastic containers have a known issue.  The plastic leeches into the orange juice, and you consume it.  These plastics are linked to all types of cancer.  Paper containers are coated with wax.  Most of the commercial waxes have the same issue as the plastic containers.  You run an elevated risk of getting cancer.  If you juice your own oranges, then you eliminate that risk.
  3. You can make soups, dips, or any type of blended drinks with a dual purpose device, like the Breville Juice and Blend or equivalent.  This also eliminates the need for more processed foods in your life.  Make more of the foods you consume on a daily basis from healthy unprocessed foods.

A juicer will save you time

Finally, if you value your time, you will want to get a juicer. If you were to go somewhere to get the same quality juice, you would have to travel far. Most cities do not have easy access to organic fruit and a juice bar. In my town, there are a few places you can get fresh juice, but they do not open early. They also are not open late. I like to juice early in the morning, so it would not work for me to go and get their juice. Also, the time it would take me to drive to their establishment is more time that it would take me to make it myself. Juicing is a lifestyle, and it is worth it.

When one is thinking about any and all ways that they can improve their life, one needs to consider juicing. Why should you consider juicing? Doesn’t it take a lot of time to do this on a consistent basis?

Juicing Doesn’t Take Much Time

 

Amazon ImageThis is one of the first complaints that I hear from people. “I do not have enough time to juice!” My routine only takes a few minutes every morning. When I get up, I head into the kitchen and cut up some apples and carrots. This is one of my favorite juice recipes. If you are diabetic, this one is not for you. The juice is very sweet and it can spike your blood sugar.

I take the sliced carrots and apples (this only takes me about 3 minutes to wash and cut them up) and start to feed them into my juicer. I have one of those wide mouth models, so I do not have to cut the pieces up very much. It only takes me 2 to 3 minutes to push them all through.

Next, I clean up my machine. This only takes me about 3 to 4 minutes. All of the parts come apart very easily and I rinse them. After they are clean, I put it back together.

My entire routine only takes about 15 minutes. If I were to make a different type of breakfast, it would take me about the same amount of time. But, with this, I get fresh juice.

Always choose organic fruit and vegetables when juicing

Amazon ImageThis is your body. The only one you will get (as far as we know at this exact time). You want to treat it right, as it is going to be with you for a long time. That is the reason why I always pick up organic material to juice. It does not cost much more to get organic food, if you know where to shop.

Whole Foods can be a great place to pick up organics. I like to shop there, and I like to shop at my local Farmers Market. Many farmers use sustainable farming practices and grow organics. Spend some time getting to know them, and ask them about their methods. Use your gut to tell you if they are trustworthy or not. Using this method, I have saved thousands of dollars, and I got some great food out of it.

If you are too busy to go to the Farmers Market, then you can swing by your local Whole Foods or other type of store. Even Walmart has organic food. I was surprised to hear that Walmart is the largest seller of organic foods. I have not purchased any yet, but I have heard that they have great prices.

The many benefits of juicing

Once you start to juice on a regular basis, you will see the benefits. I was able to get my mineral levels up to a point that I had not done previously. I also was able to get the correct amount of vitamins each day. If I did not juice, I would have to take even more pills and multivitamins.
